Alliance World Fellowship (AWF) is an association of churches and ministries affiliated with the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA). AWF began in the 1880s as a movement and has evolved into a mission-oriented denomination with partners in more than 80 countries around the world, using a variety of names.
Here are some key moments in AWF history:
- 1880s: Founded by Albert Benjamin Simpson as a movement dedicated to four core beliefs: full sanctification, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Second Coming of Christ, and divine healing.
- 1900: Founding of the Missionary Alliance to coordinate missionary work.
- 1914: First World Conference of the Missionary Alliance.
- 1974: Name change to Christian and Missionary Alliance.
- 1995: Adoption of the AWF mission statement: “To promote cooperation among its member churches in their work to fulfill the Great Commission.”
- 2025: The next AWF Quadrennial Convention is scheduled for October 7-12, where the name of Jesus Christ will be proclaimed to all nations.
Today, AWF is a dynamic, growing network of churches and ministries united by shared beliefs and a passion for sharing the Gospel and serving those in need. AWF continues to play an important role in the global missionary movement, supporting missionaries in more than 80 countries.
